Innkeepers Sharon and Sam are thoughtful hosts, always ready to lend a hand in finding something to do nearby. But it shouldn’t be too hard since the Holladay House is close to wineries, restaurants, art galleries and the homes of James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. Visitors have such a delightful time that some even make an annual trip. It must be the tea and cookies; we hear they’re available day and night!

Middleton Inn

This English-style country inn was built in 1840 by the original designer of the Confederate Army uniform. Amidst the green pastures and scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, enjoy impeccable service, complimentary wine and a three-course breakfast. Anyone who loves the great outdoors will find solace in scenery of Silverbrook Farm. The 300-year-old house has a large front porch with rocking chairs, perfect for gazing at the calm hills, mountains and wildlife. Explore the lush, colorful gardens, make a biking/hiking trek and visit local restaurants. But book early as only two rooms—Safe Harbor and Sunrise/Sunset—are available.

 

Stafford House

No need to go far for a quiet weekend. The Stafford House in Fairfax offers a king-size bed, working fireplace and large flat screen TV in each room, making an evening in seem like the coziest, most romantic date. What’s even better is that guests can enjoy a Jaccuzi tub, sauna or jetted shower for maximum relaxation.

Lord Fairfax Country House

Originally built in 1732 by the Fifth Lord Fairfax, this log home reeks of charm. If you want a vacation from modern electronics, the house doesn’t have Wi-Fi but it makes up for it with 11 acres of gardens, greenery and croquet. Accomodations for one couple only make it the perfect escape for a newlywed couple. Being in the heart of Virginia horse country, the Middleburg B&B is also close to the polo fields and horse farms. You can almost imagine George Washington riding his horse out to the estate to meet with Lord Fairfax.
